Investment opportunities

Where we put capital to work.

Solaris operates in four fields. Each of them is available to qualified investors as a direct investment, a co-investment alongside the company, or an advisory mandate.

Field I

Participations in companies.

The acquisition, holding and management of participations is the core of what Solaris does. We take stakes in established companies with real cash flows, clear ownership and a reason to exist in ten years' time.

Our focus is on mid-sized and large private companies in Europe and selected international markets, in sectors where we understand the economics: industrial manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, resources and logistics, financial services and specialised trading businesses. We do not invest in early-stage ventures.

Holdings range from significant minority positions with board representation to full ownership. The holding period is not fixed. Some participations have been in the portfolio since the company's first years.

How investors take part

  • Co-investment alongside Solaris in individual participations, with identical terms and pro-rata governance rights.
  • Direct acquisition of a participation with Solaris acting as structuring adviser and, if desired, as manager of the holding.
  • Sale of an existing holding to Solaris, with or without the seller retaining a stake.
Field II

Advisory and management services.

Solaris provides services in finance, corporate advisory and management to owners, boards and investors. The work is confidential, senior-led and paid for by a fee agreed in advance.

Typical engagements include the preparation and execution of acquisitions and disposals, the structuring of holding companies and ownership transitions, the raising of debt and equity for large transactions, and interim or board-level management of companies in transition.

We also act as an independent second opinion. Boards and family councils facing a major decision ask us to review the case, the valuation and the risks without any interest in the outcome.

Corporate finance

Acquisitions, disposals, capital raising, valuation and structuring for transactions from the tens of millions to the billions.

Management

Board mandates, interim executive roles, restructuring and the management of holding structures on behalf of owners.

Field III

Commodities and precious metals.

Solaris trades in commodities and precious metals of all kinds. For large investors, physical metal is not a speculation but a reserve asset. We treat it accordingly.

The company arranges the purchase, sale, allocation and storage of gold, silver, platinum and palladium in bar form with recognised refiners and independent vault operators in Switzerland and abroad. Every position is allocated and documented in the client's name.

In addition, Solaris trades in industrial metals, energy commodities and agricultural commodities for its own account and for clients, and structures hedging programmes for companies with material exposure to commodity prices.

  • Physical precious metals: purchase, allocated storage, insurance, transport and resale.
  • Commodity trading and off-take arrangements for producers, processors and traders.
  • Hedging and price-risk programmes for corporate balance sheets.
Field IV

Asset investment and portfolio management advice.

For family offices, institutional investors and private holdings, Solaris advises on asset allocation, financial structure and portfolio management across all asset classes.

The starting point is always the same: what is this capital for, over what period, and what must never happen to it. From there we build an allocation that can be explained on one page and defended in any market. Equity, credit, real assets, private participations and metals each have a place, and the weights are set by purpose rather than by fashion.

We do not run pooled funds. Advice is given under individual mandates, and execution is carried out with the custodians and managers the client already uses or with partners we select together.

Process

From first conversation to long-term stewardship.

Dialogue

A private conversation about your objectives, constraints and time horizon. No presentation, no product.

Analysis

We examine the opportunity or the portfolio in depth: numbers, people, contracts, risks. Everything is put in writing.

Structure

Ownership, financing, tax and governance are designed to fit the investor, not the other way round.

Execution

Negotiation, documentation and closing, handled by the same senior team from beginning to end.

Stewardship

Ongoing management, reporting and board work for as long as the position is held.

Investor profile

Who we work with.

Solaris works only with qualified and professional investors as defined by the applicable law. Our clients and partners typically include:

  • Single and multi-family offices with substantial, multi-generational capital.
  • Institutional investors, including pension funds, insurers, foundations and sovereign entities.
  • Entrepreneurs and owner families before, during and after a transaction.
  • Corporations seeking a co-investor, an adviser or a counterparty in commodities and metals.
